-Join or renew your National
AMS membership if you haven't done so already. The cost is $15
per year and you also receive a BAMS magazine every month filled with
many great articles as well as possible senior thesis ideas (It's
never too early to start thinking about a senior thesis topic!).
Order forms are available in the AMS mailbox in Agron 3010 or go online
to www.ametsoc.org.
2005-2006 Student Chapter of the Year - National AMS
-Thanks to Justin, Kaj,
and Dave who picked up the banner at the National AMS conference in
San Antonio, TX last week
Chapter Poster of the Year
-Thanks to Jon Hobbs for
designing our poster for this year's national conference. Our
poster was awarded 1st place!
Treasurer Update - Lisa Stewart
-We have about $1,400 in our account right now.
-We raised $450 from calendar sales
-Please take note that if you have to buy anything for AMS, you will not be reimbursed for anything less than $25
-Men who played broomball
last semester (or even just signed up!): you MUST pay Lisa $2.
Social Chair Update - Jesse Wartman
-Thanks to those who sold calendars today in the MU.
-Ice Skating - this month's social event! It will be THIS Sunday, January 28th from 2-4 p.m. The cost is $4.75 for admission ($3 if we have 20 people!) and $2.75 for skates.
-We will go sledding after the ice skating at the frisbee golf course. Email Jesse (social.isuams@iastate.edu) if you need directions.
-Upcoming intramurals:
Team Bowling (FREE!) - two, two game sessions.
Racquetball
Soccer
Co-ed broomball
Co-ed slow pitch softball (a sign-up sheet was passed around)
-February social event: gaming night

Kaleidoquiz - Jason Patton
-This will take place at
the end of February/beginning of March. It is a 26-hour long event
where teams answer questions every six minutes, go on scavenger hunts
to earn points.
Spring Break Trip to Oklahoma - Liz White
-Those who were interested met after the meeting.

Historian Update - Jeff Edmondson
-New pictures have been put on the board.

Cy's Eyes Update - Kaj Johnson O'Mara and Scott Lincoln
-The first show attempt of the semester had many things go wrong (which were not our fault).
-We are waiting to hear from the studio supervisor and general manager about getting things fixed in the studio.
-We are working through the issues, so stay tuned for more information.
-We
will attempt another show tomorrow (1/24).
Wx Challenge Update - Jayson Prentice
-We will be forecasting for San Antonio, TX, beginning next Thursday.

Iowa Forecast Contest - Jon Hobbs
-We are in the first period of first semester.
-Andrew is currently in 1st while Brandon is in 2nd.
-There are still plenty

Apparel and Calendars
-Calendars are still available. Don't hesitate to sell more!
-We have a new t-shirt design for the spring. It will be yellow with red writing and a bunch of meteorological equations on the back. Cost will be $12. We may also be selling a "mechanics shirt" about the Iowa Environmental Mesonet. Cost will hopefully be around $25?
-Three long-sleeve blue
t-shirts are still available. Talk to Liz if interested in purchasing
one.
Sawyer Elementary School Night
-January 25th,
6:30-8:30 p.m. We will leave at 6:00 p.m.
Science Olympiad
-We have been asked to help middle schoolers prepare for their Science Olympiad competition. The theme this year is: weather forecasting.

actual event is March 3rd.
St. Cecelia Science Fair
-Saturday,
February 3rd, 3:00-5:00 pm. We will leave at 2:30 p.m.
TV Station Visit

February 17th at KCCI at 5:15 p.m. We will leave at
4:15 p.m.
ISU Major Fair
-Wednesday,
February 21st.
CPR Training
-Saturday, February 24th;
-It will cost $25 (at last check).

Severe Storms and Doppler Radar Conference
-March 22nd-24th in West Des Moines.
-Jessica Reese's parents will provide dinner one night
-A sign-up sheet was passed around so we can get a head count in order us to apply for grant money from the university. If you are going to attend but were not at the meeting tonight, please email Justin (pres.isuams@iastate.edu).
-Cost is $65 for students plus the hotel costs (four people in a room).
-Meteorology professors will let you out of class.
