Area of research: Over the past decade, research has primarily focused on two-phase fluid flow in porous media and capillary phenomena. In particular, investigation of the possibility of increasing oil and gas production from petroleum reservoirs trough subjecting them to artificial vibrations. Possible technological applications are in developing methods of acoustic stimulation of oil-producing wells, and also in the acoustically enhanced cleanup of groundwater polluted by liquid organic contaminants insoluble in water. Also interested in studying how to best predict surface effects of large earthquakes, including modeling radiation of seismic waves from rupturing geologic faults.

Classes taught: I teach introductory geology face-to-face and online and used to teach MTEOR 206 until 2011. I also advise geology undergraduates, especially the ones who want to become Earth science teachers in middle and high school.
Area of research: I do research on stratigraphy (figuring out the sequence of events in geologic time from rocks and fossils) and the application of technology for science literacy and student engagement.

Name: Daryl Herzmann
Tasks: I am an Assistant Scientist with the Department of Agronomy. I am involved in a number of research projects ranging from: green house gas emissions from agricultural cropping systems, to modelling road pavement wear, to modelling soil erosion in Iowa. I also maintain the weather / climate data archives found on the Iowa Environmental Mesonet website.
Area of research: Computational Meteorology, Mesoscale Meteorology, and Climate Modelling.

Name: Melissa Stolt
Tasks: I’m the undergraduate Agron/Mteor secretary. I’ve worked at the university for 16 years. I’ve been married for 20 years and we have two children. Curtis, 20 is in his 2nd year at Iowa Central Committee College in the Diesel Tech Program. Our daughter, Hailey, 17 is a senior at South Hamilton and will attend ISU in Fall 2013 in Ag Business.
Name: Dr. Gene Takle
Classes taught: Wind Energy Science, Engineering and Policy 501
Area of research: Regional climate change. Impacts of future climate change on such areas as roadway construction, crop diseases, streamflow, soil carbon, crop growth, and building design. This project involves running climate models and analyzing model output and station observations to understand past trends and future climate projections. I also am engaged in research in wind energy. For the past three years we have made meteorological measurements in a large wind farm. We are evaluating the impact of turbines on crops and also assessing how turbines interact with each other and with the free atmosphere. The wind project engages numerous graduate students and undergrads participating in putting out instruments, taking measurements, analyzing data, and taking down instruments.
