After new member introductions, the new social committee (Mike Holts, Elise Johnson, and Kari Kozak) made announcements. ISU AMS won its first intramural basketball game in a while last week. IM Bowling will be February 10th for those who signed up. You can still sign up for bowling, it just won't be on the same night. Contact Mike () if you are interested. There is AMS basketball every Thursday night at 9pm in the Lied Rec Center. A Valentine's Day gathering/party is being considered. If you are interested and/or have any ideas, email Mike or Elise (). Other events in the planning stages include and skiing trip and a camping trip.

Kevin Sullivan, Kari Kozak, Matt Grewe, and Stephen Konarik attended the annual AMS meeting in Seattle earlier this month. Kevin received a travel grant from the national AMS and accepted the Chapter Honor Roll award at a breakfast there. Kari, Stephen, and Matt participated in the Student Volunteer Program. Everyone is encouraged to attend the meeting next year in San Diego.

We will be ordering ISU AMS/Meteorology t-shirts soon. Order forms are beeing developing and we will be collected money before the order is made. AMS sweatshirts, t-shirts, and polo shirts will be available. Look for an additional email that will contain this order forms. Give your completely forms to Jon Hobbs (jonhobbs@iastate.edu) or Adam Kuban (ajkuban@iastate.edu) or place it in the AMS mailbox in the Meteorology secretary's office.

For those of you that attended the Central Iowa National Weather Association Severe Storms Conference in 2003, a partial reimbursement from LAS Council is on the way. Be on the lookout for your checks in the mail.

The 2004 Central Iowa NWA will take place from March 25-27 at the Embassy Suites in Des Moines. Kevin has gathered a list of attendees this year to submit to the LAS Council for reimbursement. If we receive money, it will not be until after the date of the conference. A discount conference fee is available to Iowa State students, email Elise for information on this. Rides to and from Des Moines will also be available. Contact an AMS officer for information or ask around closer to the date of the conference. Hotel costs are located on the Central Iowa NWA website as well as other information. www.iowa-nwa.com.

The ISU AMS Spring Break Trip 2004 will be to Oklahoma. 13 or so people have signed up. Kevin will be emailing those who have expressed interest about a meeting that will be held for further information. The trip will take place March 14-18. Exact and total costs have not been determined, but hotel costs should be around $50 per person. We will be staying in suites. A tour of the National Severe Storms Laboratory will take place and the University of Oklahoma Student AMS has been helping us with the planning.

Advanced Spotter Training will take place Thursday February 19 at 7pm in 2050 Agronomy. Andy Kula and Jeff Johnson of the Des Moines National Weather Service will be speaking. This is the third straight year this training event will be occuring here at ISU, cosponsered by ISU AMS. It is an informative night packed with information about severe weather. Storm spotters will be attending from around central Iowa.

ISU AMS has been invited by the ISU Relations Office to meet with thirty or so 8th graders and give a weather presentation. This will take place Monday February 23, from 11am to 12:30pm. It will take place in a computer lab and the criteria will be similar to the student weather session we held last semester. Volunteers are needed. Contact Jon if you are interested.

Women In Science and Engineering (WISE) will be holding programs to help teach young female students about weather. Janet Snook and Elise Johnson will be coordinating this talk, which will take place February 26, from 4-5:30pm. If you are interested in helping out, contact Elise or Janet ().
