ISU AMS Meeting Minutes

November 14, 2002

The snow contest was cancelled due to lack of interest.  Only one person entered.

Cub scouts went well. Brandon Kim and Brian went and talked to them.  Brian made a lot of new friends.

Shirts: Sweatshirts are in and can be picked up in Jenny's office right next to the classroom.  Polo shirts will be ordered soon.  Let jenny know size color and long or short sleeve at .  They cost estimate is $20-25.

Stickers/Banner: We will also be ordering window stickers that say Iowa State Meteorology.  They will run $0.30-1.  We also want to order a banner to be able to display at events we participate in.  It will likely cost $100-150.  We will vote on this at the next meeting.

Science Night: Tuesday Nov. 19th is a local school science night.  We have participates in this for the past few years.  Volunteers are needed for this.  We need the booth staffed from around 4:30 to 8:30.  If you are interested in working at this for part or all of the time, let Brandon know at .  It is at Fellows Elementary.

Brochure: Brandon made an AMS brochure for a class project.  We are planning to fix it up a little and print some for senior visit day students who come to the department.

Minnesota Trip: Date planned is January 25th.  We will go to the science museum and possibly the mall. If you have other ideas, let Brandon know.  If plan to go and did not sign up at the meeting, also let Brandon know at .

Our current account balance is $1157.89

We are thinking about having a winter party when we get back to school in January. More info will be sent about this later.

Upcoming Events: All speakers are tentative

January: Karl Jungbluth, NWS or Shenna's brother who is in the airforce

February: Freese Notis, a private forecasting firm in DSM

March: Offutt AFB person and Spotter Training

April: VEISHEA

NWA Severe Storms Conference will be during March 27-29.  More info on this in the spring.

Spring Break: Top possibilities for next semester Florida or the D.C. area. Brian and Jeremiah will be heading the trip committee.

Next meeting: January 16, 2003 Tentatively.  Have a great break!!
