*****Upcoming Meetings and Events*********

Thursday, August 30th..."Cy's Eyes on the Skies" meeting at 7 PM in Agronomy 3128. "Cy's Eyes" is a tv show on ISU4 that airs twice a week and is put on by meteorology majors and minors who are interested in weather broadcasting. Come to this meeting to join.

Wednesday, September 5th...Department of Geological and Atmospheric Sciences Annual Picnic at Inez Grove Park in Ames from 5 to 10 PM. If you want to go and did not sign up at the meeting, email Jeremy () by this Thursday Night. Also let him know if you can give a ride or need a ride.

Thursday, September 6th...Learn how to forecast session for freshman and anyone else who is participating in the National Collegiate Weather Forecasting Contest at Agronomy 3128 at 7:15 PM.

Thursday, September 13th...Pizza Party at the next meeting at 7:15 PM in Agronomy 3128. All meeting days and times will likely occur on Thursdays at 7:15 PM.

Saturday, September 15th...Tailgate before the ISU/Iowa football game. Sign-up and more info at the next meeting.

If you didn't sign up for the National Collegiate Weather Forecasting Contest, sign up with Jeremy () or at the September 6th forecast session. The contest entails forecasting temperatures and precipitation Monday through Thursday for a selected city for two weeks at a time. The contest will start on September 10th with Key West, Florida. Entry fee is $4 and is payable by check to ISU AMS or cash to Penny (). Deadline to sign-up and to pay the fee is September 6th.

Intramurals....Deadline to sign-up for flag football and ultimate frisbee is this Wednesday Night. E-mail Kevin () to sign-up. Deadline for Soccer is next Tuesday Night, sign-up with Kevin.

Dues are $5 for the entire year. Checks are payable to ISU AMS or cash to Penny (). Dues must be paid by the end of the next meeting on September 13th in order to participate in activities and have voting privileges in meetings.

Sign-up for The First Snow Contest will begin at the next meeting.

We will go to Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska in October, more details at the next meeting. Also we will visit a tv station and the National Weather Service in Johnston this year.

We will be going bowling in late September, sign-up at the next meeting. Other events include a Halloween party, Groundhog's Day party, basketball game, dinner, and bbq/picnic during the year.

Justin will try to get a tv personality to speak to our group this fall and get a bigger speaker (from NCAR, NWS) for next spring.

We will do severe weather talks to school children and the Ames Science Fair this spring.

Justin is working on putting plexiglass on the Tornado Machine.

Ryan is working on developing the AMS web site, http://www.meteor.iastate.edu/ams/.  He will be posting a calender of events of meetings and the minutes of each meeting soon. AOL Instant Messenger names and email addresses of all members will be posted soon. Check it out.

Jeremy will try to get a bulletin board outside of the classroom for a calender of events, etc.

There will be no Storm Chase Club this year. Instead those interested in storm chasing will receive emails from those who will want to storm chase. The hot spot for decision-making will be the map room (Agronomy 3008), where students will meet and decide who's going to drive and who needs rides. However, storm chasing will not be an official activity of the ISU AMS.

Ideas for a spring break trip include visiting the Weather Channel in Atlanta and a lightning center in Florida and then spending the rest of the time in Florida. Other ideas include NCAR in Boulder, Colorado, and Chicago. More discussion will occur at the next meeting.

AMS National Conference will be held in Orlando, Florida from January 13th - 17th, 2002. For more info, contact Jeremy.
