Complementary behavior (Figure 5.21) :
- downdraft is maintained by precipitation falling into it from the updraft

- downdraft advances at surface which helps to lift the warm moist air, which maintains the updraft

- for this complementary behavior to occur you need a sloping nature between the updraft and downdraft. You get this slope with a “strong vertical windshear”
