My name is Ben Walton and I'm a Meteorology Major at Iowa State University. I started my undergraduate work at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where I was a Pre-Pharmacy Major. After two and a half years there I decided that Pharmacy wasn't for me. At the time I was working in the pharmacy at St. Luke's Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids as a Certified Pharmacy Technician. In 2009 I decided to go back to college to finish my Associates of Science Degree. I also made the decision to turn my love of weather into a career.
I've had an interest in weather as far back as I can remember. I love severe storms and always get excited for a good storm. I can remember a time when the tornado sirens were going off and my mother and I went out on our deck to take a look. (Not the smartest thing in the world) Above us was a jagged lowering of clouds that was starting to rotate. At that point we decided to go downstairs. About a half an hour later we found out that a tornado was reported about two miles to the east of town. Until I came to Iowa State, that was the closest I had been to a tornado.
