Steve Kearney's Meteorology Home Page

Welcome to my Meteorology website! I developed this page through the ISU Meteorology Department for professional use and also as a portfolio for my Meteorology career.

I graduated from Iowa State University in August of 2006, with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. I started my career at WeatherBank, a private weather forecasting company in Edmond, Oklahoma.

In 2008, I was hired by the National Weather Service office in Nome, Alaska, where I did "blue-collar" weather (launched balloons, augmented ASOS, and reported precipitation amounts).

In late 2009, I moved to the NWS forecast office in Fairbanks, Alaska, where I experienced temperatures down to 40 below zero! I also got experience on the forecast desk, which meant forecasting for over 300,000 square miles of Alaska wilderness.

Two years later, I moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where I am located at the NWS Center Weather Service Unit. Here, I work alongside the FAA to provide decision support for enroute and terminal aircraft.

Eventually, I would like to become a Warning Coordination Meteorologist in the NWS to improve ways of protecting people from hazardous weather.
