• Looking at Figure 6.4 (page 288), compare the two curves:

  • Earth emits at 255 K (we will see why later)
  • Note that the curves barely overlap. A consequence of this is that we can treat solar (shortwave) radiation separately from terrestrial (longwave e.g. infrared) radiation (and other planets)
