Advection of temperature is the horizontal transport of temperature by the wind. For this exercise significant advection will occur when at least a 1 degree F tempersture change due to advection occurs in the two hour period preceeding 18Z (i.e., the total change for two hours, 17Z and 18Z is 1 degree F or more).
This corresponds to a 10 mi/hr wind blowing directly across isotherms which have a spacing of about 10 degrees F over a distance corresponding to the N-S dimension of Iowa (about 200 miles ) for a two hour period.
