Radar

Everyone that watches television is familiar with radar images and loops.  Doppler Radar plays a crucial role in helping meteorologists determine where storms are at their strongest and who should be on the lookout for severe weather.  The image to the right is an example of a severe thunderstorm that exhibits the text-book "hook echo" (the swirling red part).  This wrap-around effect shows strong rotation within a storm and the capability to produce a tornado.
