Levitus et al (2000) assemble measurements from the global ocean and estimate the amount of heat that has accumulated in the last 50 years. Their results support the assertion that excess heating during the period 1979-1996 has accumulated in the ocean. Their analysis cannot attribute this heating to natural or anthropogenic causes.
