Donald Kennedy, editor of Science, called into question the wisdom of the US climate science plan in his Science editorial on 21 March 2003. He asserts that failure of the Bush administration to call for immediate action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is shortsighted. The current administration plan calls for gradual change in emissions with emphasis on adaptation. Kennedy asserts that "it now appears equally likely that warming events will trigger an abrupt nonlinear process, producing dramatic regional temperature decreases, especially in the temperate Northern Hemisphere."
