Increasing global human population is a strong contributing factor to global environmental change. We will see in later units that number of people alone is not the whole issue. Rather the aggregated impact of the choices made by all people determines the degree of influence on the environment.

Carl Haub , a demographer with the US government, provides a good overview of trends in global and US population .

You also will want to visit the world "popclock" to check on the current global population and how it changes second by second.
